Celebrating Black Music Month with Self Care Fun
We had fun celebrating Black Music Month at Maketto in D.C. with Black Girls Love Coffee Shops (BGLCS) and Cool Kids Vinyl.
Being music lovers, we always look forward to celebrating this month and this year was no different. Not only did we highlight some of our favorite artists such as Ari Lennox and Lauryn Hill, we were invited to do one of our Unleash Your Melanin Magic cards activities at BGLC’s Vinyl Swap event.
The event kicked off with a team icebreaker activity to quickly write actual song titles with a selected word. Then it was time to do our self-care card activity #8 Create the Soundtrack of Your Life. This self-care activity encourages women to create a soundtrack list to reflect and embrace your story.
Our song lists represented overcoming obstacles, embracing new chapters in life, embracing self-love, and more. Since music can be healing, inspiring, and uplifting, we believe music can play a major part in practicing self care in a creative way. We have a playlist to get you going!
After our activity, we shopped and swapped vinyls while building sisterhood sharing our music taste.
We thank everyone for joining us and a special thanks goes to BGLCS and Cool Kids Vinyl for allowing us to co-host this event!
