Celebrating National Yoga Awareness Month

MQC kicked off September with a relaxing time outdoors in honor of National Yoga Awareness Month. Our own Tianna Christine led a Vinyasa yoga practice at Lake Artemesia in College Park, Md.

Yoga can be a rewarding fitness and mindfulness benefits, which include:

  • Improve flexibility
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve strength
  • Release tension
  • Improve mental clarity
  • Improve breathwork

We started with an icebreaker activity using a self-care block to introduce ourselves and share something about ourselves based on a selection on the block. Some of us chose share gratitude, share an affirmation, etc.

After introductions, we set intentions and started our first yoga practice to loosen and relax our muscles.

Afterward, it was time to do our first journaling activity. We each picked a journaling prompt, which included “I’m deserving of…,” “I feel most alive…,” We wrote about being deserving of higher pay, being proud of our resilience, and feeling most alive when we are around family and friends.

We then did a sound bath meditation and picked an intention word to reflect on as we listened to the singing bowls and did our self-care card activity, #49 Let Your Mind Wander. Following the sound bath meditation, we journaled about feelings, visions, and thoughts that came up. Then we closed by doing our final yoga salutations.

We thank those for joining us to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors.
