Holding Space for Creativity and Yoga

Melanin Queen Creative continued celebrating National Yoga Awareness Month with some creative fun participating in a Paint & Yoga event hosted by Toya B of TBC Paint Studio and Keisha Brown at Girl Fit Studio in Upper Marlboro, Md.

The event started with a relaxing yoga flow led by Keisha Brown. Keisha is a certified Yoga Teacher, Level II Reiki Practitioner, Hypnotist, and Yoga Nidra Teacher. She encouraged us to embrace the new fall season and leave behind what no longer serves us during the practice.

Following the yoga practice, we took a break and enjoyed a tea bar.

After the break, it was time to do our self-care card activity #9, Say What’s on a Sticky Note led by Andrea, which we always enjoy at in-person events to emphasize the importance of embracing self love. We had attendees write affirmations on heart sticky notes and partner up to recite what they wrote in front of a mirror their partner held up. Writing out something is one thing, but when you say it aloud, it’s even more powerful.

The activity was perfect to get people inspired for the last activity of the event – painting our yoga mats led by Toya B! Toya B is a self-taught artist who launched TBC Paint Studio in 2019. She instructed us on techniques and what to paint on our mats, including painting different ancient African symbols. She also encouraged us to include painting affirmations on our mats.

Thank you to Toya and Keisha for having us be a part of this lovely event!
