Recap: Black Girl Self Love Day
For Galentine’s Day Weekend, we held our Black Girl Self Love Day on Saturday, Feb. 11 to bring Black women together for a morning of sisterhood to celebrate and embrace self love. The morning started out with a yoga stretch followed by a soothing sound bath led by MQC co-owner and yoga instructor Tianna Christine. We repeated aloud self-love mantras such as “I am important,” “I am worthy,” “I bring meaning and joy to myself,” and “I love you.” Following the sound bath, we shared the feelings and thoughts that came up.
Some women shared how they had a spiritual awakening, while others shared how it reminded them of the importance of showing up for yourself, and how new and freeing it was to speak “I love you.” Then there was an opening discussion on what self love means to us. Everyone had a unique perspective that spoke to where they are on their self-love journey.
“Self love is getting high off my own energy”
For our first self-love activity, we focused on our self-care card activity, #9 Say What’s on the Sticky Note. We wrote down things we love about ourselves and partnered up to share them aloud. There’s certainly power in speaking aloud loving words of affirmations.
For the final self-love activity, we wrote a self-love letter to ourselves. Melanin Queen Creative will randomly mail out the letter in the near future, so the ladies are reminded of what they love about themselves. The event wrapped up with networking and our raffle prize drawings, where we raffled off our Unleash Your Melanin Magic card set and the "Self-Love Workbook for Women."
Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event so special. The presence of sisterhood was so moving. Thank you to our lovely event vendors Keisha Watson of Bright Journey Counseling, who brought delicious self-love day cupcakes from The Sweetest Experience, and Jasmin Sellers of Naranti Natural Foods for your partnership and support.
"I truly enjoyed myself at the self love event. I felt safe, loved, and accepted in this space."
